Transformers Universe: The Battle Begins

On December 12, Jagex Games Studios thrilled lucky fans with a limited number of invitations to the Transformers Universe (TU) closed beta. As a studio partner, Work at Play is delighted to be able to congratulate Jagex and celebrate with them as we work together to bring Transformers to the web.

A Free-To-Play MOBA Thrill

Transformers Universe extends the legendary battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons by making their war core to the game experience.

It was this battle theme, along with the rich history of the Transformers brand, that led Jagex to shift the game from an MMO (massively multiplayer online) game to a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game.

Alex Horton, Chief Creative Director, described it best:

“Transformers are about war: they’re about action. They don’t carry gold, bake bread, catch fish, or cut down trees.”

Extending the Transformer Storyworld

Players of Transformers Universe must choose their allegiance: to either fight as a Decepticon or an Autobot. Like the Transformers themselves, the game is about commitment to the cause and players can’t switch factions on a whim.

By playing Transformers Universe, gamers actively contribute to the TU storyworld. Their choices can determine victory or defeat and every move counts as the story unfolds, one battle at a time.

For Transformer fans like us, this is the kind of experience we’ve been looking for.

Choose your allegiance: Autobot or Decepticon.
