Our New Diggs

We here at Work at Play had been thinking about moving for a while. We loved our Railtown loft and all the charm and quirks that made it uniquely ours, but as we grew we just couldn’t convince it to keep growing with us.

So we had to make the hard decision to separate; the time had come. It would seem however, that when push came to shove the old gal wasn’t quite as ready to let us go as she thought. So we compromised and moved up a level instead of out the door.

Moving offices presents it’s own set of specific challenges and it’s been an interesting ride to watch our new office space develop.  We needed an open space that would accommodate our collaborative environment with enough private space to hold company meetings, pitches, brainstorming sessions and the occasional need for a quiet moment away. It needed to be big enough for us to grow, but not so big that we would require long distance radios to communicate.  And it definitely needed a kitchen counter big enough to hold our espresso machine, microwave and toaster oven. We take our nourishment / love of caffeine very seriously.

In the end, I think we managed to find a space to accommodate all of those needs. Of course it needed a little coaxing and reconstructive surgery, but that’s all part of the process. We now have a great space that will allow us to grow and which we will continue to tweak until it feels just right, creatively and functionally.  It may have been a bit of a journey to get here, but just the other day I noted the surest sign that we’re settled in and moving forward; most of us have stopped getting off the elevator at our old floor.
